In this novel - the story of the spiritual quest Tzemach Atlas, who founded a yeshiva in the Jewish settlement in pre-war Lithuania. The importance of the book is an authoritative image mentor, "the rabbi with smolokurni", whose sensitivity, intelligence and ethical certainty subtly but surely help to find their way to many characters in the novel, including the most Tzemach Atlas. Bright and psychological authenticity given in the book of images of yeshiva students and ordinary people, clearly, with love bitterness, shows the manners, way of the Jewish town, religious and social life in and around the yeshiva.

In the second volume the author of the novel's characters leads to a certain result - each in its own way: the director of the yeshiva Tzemach Atlas departs from religious activities, but not the faith, and the pursuit of justice; Mahase-Avrom, "the rabbi with smolokurni" leaving Eretz Yisroel in; Hykle-vilenchanin finds his calling in the literature. This was the choice of many young people of this generation, received a traditional Jewish education. It is a choice, and the author, whose books have been recognized not only for its artistic value, but also thanks to an accurate description of a vanished world of Lithuanian Jewry.
