Guide provides a series of publications, launched in 1991 the Russian State Humanitarian University (State Humanitarian University, Moscow), the Jewish Theological Seminary of America (Yetsan, New York) and the Institute for Jewish Research (YIVO, New York) project to develop the written heritage of the Jews, is stored in archives in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
 
Presumably in the series will include separate volumes - in Moscow, St. Petersburg, regional and territorial archives of the Russian Federation and Ukraine and Belarus. Moscow archives contain unique collections of sources on the history and culture of the Jews from the Middle Ages until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, covering mostly archival documents on the pre-revolutionary Russian and Soviet Jewry, the modern and contemporary history of the Jews abroad in Europe and Israel, the Holocaust, the Soviet-Israeli relationship.
