Two events in European history coincided remarkably: the discovery of America and the expulsion of Jews from Spain.

The second in August 1492 a squadron of three ships commanded by Christopher Columbus went to sea. The same day, the Spanish Jews were forced to leave their homeland forever.

The book is an American historian Edward Kritslera talks about how the exiles and their descendants were looking for a new home in the lands discovered by Columbus, as they struggled with those who condemned them to exist in foreign lands.

In 1992, Pope John Paul II at the Vatican took the descendants of Spanish Jews. On behalf of the Catholic Church, he offered them an apology for the persecution of their ancestors.

Among those who listened to the Roman pontiff, were descendants of the heroes of this book - Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean.
