"We should keep up with the times." This idea was expressed by more than two centuries ago by the founder of the Hasidic movement Chabad, Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi. Under the "time" he was referring to the weekly Torah portion, thereby saying that everything that happens in the universe in a week is very closely connected with the head of the Torah which Jews read in this time period.

But the Torah was written thousands of years ago! What seems to be its relevance today, if you go "in step" with its current head of the means to keep up with the times?

The fact that "the Almighty created the world, looking at the Torah," and "the process of creation is constantly updated at each time." That is a permanent process of creation proceeds exactly as the Torah not only in meaning, but also in time.

If so, the Torah remains relevant and topical in every generation and in every moment of time, and you can always learn from it modern immediate conclusions, manuals and guides.

In this book, Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburg delves into the Torah portion and retrieves the new brilliant ideas, often quite unexpected, especially relevant to our time and needed to understand the essence of man and society and their relationship with the Creator.

Preface to the Russian edition

"We should keep up with the times."

This idea was expressed by more than two centuries ago by the founder of the Hasidic movement Chabad, Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi.

Under the "time" he was referring to the weekly Torah portion, * speaking thus, that everything that happens in the universe in a week is very closely connected with the head of the Torah which Jews read in this time period.

Nowadays, the concept of identity obscured the notion of a society and its freedom and rights to the fore of attention of mankind, overshadowing the interests of society as a whole.

Is it bad? Is this a hypertrophy of selfishness?

Surely not. People are finally starting to realize their self-worth as individuals, not just as impersonal elements of society, cogs in a huge machine, and want to learn to understand themselves. (This, in particular, explains the popularity of psychology and various "spiritual" exercises and techniques in our time.) Of course, banks and "overshoot" in such processes is almost inevitable.

In this book, Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburg delves into the Torah portion and retrieves the new brilliant ideas, often quite unexpected, especially relevant to our time and needed to understand the essence of man and society and their relationship with the Creator.

It should be explained to the reader of this book is intended: for someone who is willing to use the intuitive power of his mind, along with analytical and not let one of these forces to suppress the other. Formal logic is an important tool, but not the chief judge.

And more. The specifics of the Russian language is very difficult translation from Hebrew Kabbalistic work due to lack of adequate concepts. Unlike attitude and interests of both cultures is reflected in the language.

The translation of this publication, we tried to stick to the rules, which are listed in the appendices. The reader is familiar with these rules from the start reading the book (they are placed at the end of ©).
