Choice of Enemies

"Who is your enemy" - is a fascinating novel with a murder, suicide, and the rivalry of two men in love with a woman. And at the same time is the story of how Western intellectuals, supporters of the "Left" views (a substantial part of them were Jews), cling to their ideals even after the exposure of Stalinism. The novel "Who is your enemy" is different for the unusual severity Rihlera Mordechai, since his other works abound with piercing lyricism and humor. Mordechai Rihler (1931-2001) - one of the most famous Canadian writers, the author of many novels, books, journalism, plays and scripts - was the son of immigrants from Russia. The grandson of the scientist Hasid, he received a traditional Jewish upbringing. Grew up and studied in Montreal and later lived in Paris and England.

Rihler wrote in one of his essays: "When five years of sitting alone in four walls with an unfinished book, incredibly exhausting. <...> It happens after a few weeks there is nothing to show except sharpened pencils and rearranged in a new book on the shelves. I rewrote chapter ten times that in the end will not fit perfectly and completely flew in the basket. "
