The book is the series of lectures delivered by Michael Kara-Ivanov in the "Machanaim" center. The thirty chapters of the book present the main events of the lives of our forefathers Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov and their children as expounded in "Breshit" and in the commentaries: both traditional and contemporary. The book compares and analyzes sometimes conflicting appraisals of events as the reflection of G-d given multifacetedness of viewpoints. The narrative about the lives of the forefathers is combined with the analysis of the religious Jews' behavior in the past and nowadays. The book is addressed to the wide scope of Russian readers who were brought up on the non-Jewish culture and are interested in the authentic Jewish sources of our forefathers' lives. The book may also be recommended as a textbook for the teachers of Jewish schools in the Diaspora (mainly in the countries of FSU) and Russian schools in Israel.
