48 conditions for the acquisition of the Torah reading 49 Days oymera

The period between Pesach and Shavuot is called the "days of counting oymera"

These are the days in each of which we fulfill the commandment "sfiras aoymer" - "account oymera", namely, count the days from the 16th of Nisan, the day of sacrifice "oymer." In total, we have to calculate 49 days, or seven weeks (considered necessary and the days and weeks)

16 Nisan to Nisan 30 - 15 days
the entire month of Iyar - 29 days
from 1 to 5 Sivan Sivan - 5 days.

Fiftieth day - a holiday of Shavuot-Day Giving of the Torah, when Jews were given the first tablets of the covenant. Giving of the Torah is completely finished 10 Tishri (Day of Atonement), when they were given a second tablet. The Torah, a gift to our people by the Creator of the world, is the basis for the life of all mankind. Receive or not receive the Torah - a matter of life and death. Therefore, explains the "Sefer Chinuch" (the book - the interpreter commandments), commanded us to believe these days, according to their man, who promised that on the fiftieth day he will get something on which depends the whole of his life.

If so great is our desire to reach that special day, why do not we count how many days are left have to wait and find out how many days have passed, impatient?

These 49 days are the days of preparation for the giving of the Torah, so far as a man is ready, so he will receive the Torah. Therefore, we do not believe the days that are left, and the days that have passed. Each of us is important to know how he moved, how much has acquired the qualities required for receiving the Torah.

On the other hand, these days established by the sages as days of mourning. As it was in those days died twenty four thousands students of Rabbi Akiva. In a world no one left who could pass on the Torah, Rabbi Akiva not yet passed its six new students.

For us, it is not just mourning in memory of the tragedy, but also a reason to think that the best we can do. To receive the Torah and give it to the next generation. The prerequisite for this is to purchase a 48 qualities described by sages in his treatise "Pirkei Avot".
