The historical novel and family saga. In the center of the story - the fate of three brothers. The first - the rich man Moshe, who at the beginning of the novel is on the crest of success, but then luck turned her back on him. The second - a religious seeker of Luzin. The images of Moshe and the author of Luzin embodies two aspects of Hasidism - a positive attitude to power, social status and wealth, on the one hand, and a skeptical rejection of worldly wealth and prestige of the secular - on the other. Third, the younger brother - "not my brother, and misery" - Alter, crazy, writing letters to the biblical heroes.
