Siddur - "Procedure [prayers]" - contains all of the tradition of thousands of years of Jewish history. Siddur accompanied by the life of every Jew: community leaders and commoners, scholars of the Torah and those who managed to finish a few classes "header." Usually siddur was the first book on which the Jew had learned to read - and, at the same time, it is one of the most important elements of the Jewish heritage.
Siddur was published and reprinted countless times, but all of the classic titles have been designed for people who are familiar enough with the Jewish prayer - and these were all Jews a hundred years ago, so usually all editions of classic texts for prayers were given very briefly. In recent decades, were published a few modern editions Siddur, of which the most important are the "Rinat Yisrael" (Israel) and "Art Scroll" (in the U.S., with an English translation and commentary). These publications used clear and easy to read Hebrew font, clearly shows all the names of prayers and their parts are given a detailed explanation of order of prayers, etc., so that even the novice reader can quite easily find the right place in the Siddur.
In this long period of time with all the editions of the Siddur Russian translation produced as usual, ie classic edition, which makes it difficult for beginners use Sidur, therefore acutely felt the need for a new edition of the Siddur with Russian translation, which would meet modern requirements. Revision "Mahanaim" has decided to take on this difficult matter, and in 1995 Siddur "Gates of Prayer" was published - and has since been reprinted almost every year, becoming, in fact, the most popular of the siddur designed for the Russian-speaking reader.
For more than ten years have passed since the first edition, the need has been identified in the prayer with transliteration, which will monitor the service and actively participate in it to those who can not read the text in Hebrew. This need we strive to meet the present edition.
In the process of selecting a transliteration system we after long discussions, we decided not to seek the academic version (the most correct from the point of view of Hebrew grammar), and to the spoken version of the modern Israeli pronunciation - ie make the most of the approximate transliteration to how these texts are spoken today in Israel. We proceed from the fact that academically correct pronunciation is difficult to display the usual Russian font, the introduction of a special character (such as "on the seam") make it difficult reading. For those who have not yet mastered Hebrew, attempts to replicate the academic pronunciation can lead even further from the correct reading than if they will follow a simpler modern, spoken. We hope that our version of transliteration is readable and natural look to the Russian-speaking reader.
In this edition of the Siddur, we also added some lyrics that were not included in previous editions, namely "Extra prayers" (road prayer in the plane, prayers for peace in the family and the world on Earth - page 359 - 362), as well as new the "Memorial Prayer" - at the end of prayer.
