The translator

In this edition, we present a new translation of Tehillim.

While working on the translation, I used the existing translations of Tehillim on the Russian language, in particular, the translations that were made by Jews, O. Steinberg (Vilna, 1904) and D. Yosifonom ("Mossad Harav Kook," Jerusalem, 1978).

The main problem seems to me, was to translate that to the maximum extent that would satisfy a simple understanding of the meaning ("pshat"), which offers classical Jewish commentators. While working on the translation, I tend to follow the interpretation of obscure words, which is contained in the comments "Metsudat Tsiyon" and "Metsudat David." Both comments made living in the XVIII century. in Galicia, p. David Altschuler and are characterized by clarity. These comments are also the result of careful selection of many of the previously written comments: Rashi and others Radakov

Although my plan was not making a comment to Tehillim, in some cases, especially where the poetic text seems very vague, had to provide him with a brief interpretation. Comments are mainly based on the writings of these commentators: p. Shlomo Yitzhaki (Rashi, 1040-1105), p. Avragama Ibn Ezra (1089-1164), p. David Kimchi (Radakov, 1160-1235), p. Ovadia Sforno (c. 1470-1550) and the above-mentioned p. David Altshuler.

Translation of the various names of God made us in accordance with the instructions of the present Lubavitcher Rebbe. In 1978 I wrote to the Rebbe with the question of how to translate into Russian the names and attributes of God: Hawaii (which is all I know translation is passed as "Gd"), Ad-nai (also translated as "Mr. rd "), Elokim (translated as" Gd "), the essence of the Rebbe response was as follows:

Name of Hawaii proper name. Since the word "Gd" in Russian is not associated with any particular concept, such as "domination" and so forth, then it probably is the name of Hawaii. The name "Gd" should not be used to transfer the name Hawaii. The name "Gd" within the meaning of the name corresponds to the Ad-nai. As the name Elokim, that its meaning is explained in Shulchan Aruch, a code of Jewish law, as having "strength and power," so the translation should be "all-powerful."

Foreword

In response to numerous requests, we are releasing a book Tehillim together with the establishment of a collective reading of Tehillim, and a collection of letters (the importance of reading Tehillim), our master teacher of blessed memory, in connection with an appeal which is widely spread custom of collective reading Tehillim.

And in order to arouse and to hold us to the truth, that we were inspired by reading Tehillim in true repentance, and so our prayers were received with favor, we called this edition of the book Tags Lim's name: "Tent Yosef Yitzchak."
