Roman memories, the action of which extends from the Nazi era to our days.
The Gamliel boy's parents killed in a concentration camp, but his mother's friend, songstress Ilonka, saved him. He loses all his family, his faith and even his name. Many years later, in New York, "Negro Literature" Gamliel learns about a dying mute old woman of Hungarian. And he has an insane hope born that this is Ilonka, with which he had to leave in 1956, during the Budapest uprising crushed by Soviet troops. Memory comes alive, forcing the recall of women, whom he embraced, the friends he had lost - all of them were Jews, and all were wanderers.
