INTRODUCTION TO TALMUD STUDY is the first book of a series of publications in the Russian language aimed at students as well as general readers who wish to familiarise themselves with the basics of the Talmud.
This book contains translations of classical works as well as articles written by modern authors on the essence of the Talmud. Included are: (1) The "Introduction to Talmud," by Rabbi Shmuel Hanagid (993-1056), on the definition of the basic components of the Talmud; (2) Laws pertaining the study of Torah by the founder of the HaBal) school of Hasidism; (3) A brief grammatical review of talmudic Aramaic and an Aramaic-Russian dictionary of words and expressions commonly used in the Talmud. The preface to this edition has been written by Rabbi Adin Steinzaltz, an Israeli scholar, editor of the scientific Talmud edition. For the convenience of the student charts and diagrams are included.
