The word "Haggadah" means "a story, a fairy tale." Literature of the Haggadah, no doubt, is one of the peaks of creative Jewish people on it have grown and reared for many generations. Agadicheskie texts were created for centuries by hundreds of Zion Land of Israel, and then Babylon. Short oral narratives, fables, proverbs and interpretation of Scripture, the sages who were told by a variety of circumstances: while preaching in the synagogues, in the classroom teaching in the home and family celebrations - weddings, funerals, ceremonies to mark the circumcision of infants, and were later literature of the Haggadah . Only after years or even centuries of the Haggadah texts were recorded, processed and edited. Thousands of these stories, as gems adorn the classic Jewish texts - the Mishnah, Tosefta, Babylonian and Jerusalem Talmud, Midrash books. The entire Haggadah never existed as a separate collection, but without it's hard to imagine Jewish literature: comments on the Torah, philosophical disputes and litigation - all of them were decorated, and were supported by agadicheskimi stories.
For the first book of the series "The sages tell us" - "Once upon a time the wise men ..." - we have carefully selected a few stories from the Haggadah, and tried to tell them a modern twist, refreshing the ancient style of writing, but while maintaining respect for tradition and proximity to the excellent text original, which is good in itself and delights us, just as delighted our ancestors. We hope that not only the language of this book, but her artwork to delight the reader with freshness and beauty.
Despite modern treatment, the stories in any case have not lost their identity and did not deviate from the spirit of the Haggadah. Along with the concepts and expressions of the modern language, family and accessible to our children, in some passages there are phrases, proverbs and the concept of the original texts. Those little children to gently reveal a window into the world of ancient tradition.
