Preface to the English Edition

Words, words, words ... So many words spoken and written, printed, and scrawled on the walls, appearing on the Internet and the sounding of television screens - and yet still there are words that only a whisper, and the words are not meant for other people's ears! ..

This book is about the words, but not on such a complex and arcane, like, say, "transcendence," or chemical terms with a long name like "dimethylformamide", and the simple words spoken every day.

However, their apparent simplicity, because they carry a deeper meaning. And to understand it does not need to get down to what they root - Latin or Sanskrit, - just clearly understand ourselves, what we are putting thought into what utter. The scientific approach, which is so taken trumps, has always been based on a deep understanding of the terms and concepts.

The book discusses some common words from the point of view of the average person, interested and intently watching this world. You look, and familiar words suddenly will find the new values, the boundaries of the concepts will become clearer and their content - deeper.

This book does not teach or preach. Its main purpose - to help people learn how to understand what they are saying. Hidden Wisdom of simple words may seem surprising, but not because no one knows it exists. Each of us from time to time to re-open it for themselves, but in the hectic weekdays it somehow comes to naught, is deleted.

The book was conceived many years ago, in 1982, during my stay in one of the institutes at Princeton, where I had the pleasure at the same time formally sit back and work hard. It was there that I conceived the idea of this book has undergone some changes over time. It originated on the basis of conversations with the audience from the United States, held in a television studio, the bulk of it is processing what was said during the teleconference that took place in Jerusalem.

I would like to thank the participants in these conversations for your patience, comments, criticisms and even the expression on their faces during these discussions. Some of the statements included in this book.

I am grateful to the New York Chapter of the Society "Aleph" and Mrs. March, which helped me to-

writing this book, the editors Alan Schechter and Di-ce Shabtai for the great work on the preparation of this publication. Also a big thank you Margie, Ruth De-vis for her comments, some of which are embodied in the chapters of this book.
